Franklin Canyon Park has it all: nature trails, a turtle pond, the Andy Griffith lake. So let's spend a beautiful summer morning enjoying it.
Rather than our usual uphill hike, this will be more of a nature walk. Still, take all the precautions you would on a hike since we'll be out in nature. Wear sunscreen and sunglasses. If you see wildlife, give them distance and respect. Since there may be poison oak, long pants and layered clothing is recommended. We’ll do our best to avoid these areas as much as we can, taking different paths if needed.
This hike/walk is considered to be relatively easy by most people. Since this isn’t a difficult hike, we should have time to stop along the way to enjoy the amazing scenery.
Meet at 9:30am (we will not wait long before leaving as a group!) at the entrance to the northernmost/largest parking area by the stone pillar with the sign “William O. Douglas Outdoor Classroom."
After the hike, we’ll go out for lunch. RSVP early so we can include you in the lunch reservation!
Some things you might want to bring:
- sturdy shoes, like good running shoes or hiking boots
- sunscreen
- sunglasses
- phone/camera
- water
Parking: There are a few parking areas at Franklin Canyon Park, with the larger lots near the northern end of the reservoir.
