Join filmmakers Baldwin Chiu and Larissa Lam in a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Chris Stacey about their film Far East Deep South. The film is an award-winning feature documentary. Far East Deep South explores the seldom-told history of Chinese immigrants living in the American South during the late 1800s to mid-1900s through the eyes of Charles Chiu and his family as they travel from California to Mississippi to find answers about his father, K.C. Lou. You’ll enjoy watching this significant contribution to American history through the framing narrative of a father's desire to "not want to know" and a family’s insistence on exploring the mysteries of the past.

Note To Educators: Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed into law a new measure making Illinois the first state in the U.S. to require Asian American history be taught in public schools. Pritzker signed House Bill 376, the Teaching Equitable Asian American History or TEAACH Act. The law takes effect on Jan. 1 and the requirement begins with the start of the 2022-2023 school year. CAA Chicago feels Far East Deep South is excellent course material for the TEAACH Act.
