Columbia SoCal Book Club: Pachinko by Min Jin Lee

Come join fellow alumni at Paris Bakery in Westwood for our next book club event to discuss Pachinko by Min Jin Lee, a saga about four generations of a poor Korean immigrant family's fight to control their destiny in 20th-century Japan. PACHINKO follows one Korean family through the generations, beginning in early 1900s Korea with Sunja, the prized daughter of a poor yet proud family, whose unplanned pregnancy threatens to shame them all. Deserted by her lover, Sunja is saved when a young tubercular minister offers to marry and bring her to Japan.

Please register by Friday, May 31.

Contact Emily Burg with suggestions for future book club selections or if you'd like to host a future book club meeting.

Note: CAA SoCal book club readers can purchase their copies of Pachinko for a 15% discount from Skylight Books and a 20% discount from Book Soup and Vroman's Bookstore.  Tell the bookseller about your CAA affiliation to get the discount.
