Echo Mountain/Sam Merrill Trail Hike

We hiked -- and feasted -- on the Westside last time.  So this time we'll go east to Echo Mountain on the Lower San Merrill Trail.  That way more people can join in the fun.

Current conditions: Trail is reported to be mostly well-maintained.  The trail is popular and can get crowded.  If going to the top, hike is uphill 1,420 ft and back down the mountain, a total of 5-6 miles and ~3hrs.  Hike is generally rated moderate.  Don't worry because we’ll decide as a group how far and how fast we want to go.

Parking: There is street parking close to the trailhead, but you may have to park a ways off since it's a popular trail. As always when you park to go hiking, keep all valuables out of sight. Err on the side of caution.

Please be extra early, accounting for possible traffic and finding parking.  We will leave promptly.

IMPORTANT: There are no restrooms anywhere along the trail, not even at the trailhead.  Arrive prepared.

Some things you might want to take with you:

  • water
  • sturdy shoes
  • sunscreen
  • sunglasses

We will meet for brunch after the hike at around 1pm for those who want to join us.  Details will be provided to those who register.
