The Orange County Chapter of Columbia SoCal, with the support of the Columbia Business School Club of Orange County, proudly presents “The Politics of Healthcare” discussion as the first in a series of events focused on the most relevant and timely topics in the healthcare industry.  The Orange County Healthcare Series is an ongoing collaboration between The Orange County Chapter of Columbia SoCal and The MIT Club of Southern California.

Please join us for a fascinating look at the highly charged political landscape in which The Obama Administration had to maneuver in order to enact one of the most controversial healthcare reforms into existence. Dr. Michael Sparer, of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health, will discuss the evolution of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), otherwise known as Obamacare, the current state of the ACA, and the potential effects of the 2016 Presidential Election on the ACA’s future.

msparer.jpgMichael S. Sparer, PhD, JD, studies and writes about the politics of health care, with a particular emphasis on the health insurance and health delivery systems for low-income populations, and the ways in which inter-governmental relations influences policy, both in the U.S. and abroad. He serves as the Chair of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health and is a two-time winner of the Mailman School's Teacher of the Year Award, as well as the recipient of a 2010 Columbia University Presidential Award for Outstanding Teaching.
