CANCELLED: Core Curriculum 2.0: Plato's Symposium

Please note that this event has been cancelled and we intend to reschedule it at a better date when more alumni can participate.

This September, let’s go “back to the school”,  as we read and discuss Plato’s “Symposium”. Imagine having the chance to re-read Columbia’s core curriculum.....but with: evening meetings only short reads no papers or grades and best of all,  we encourage you to bring wine to “class”… The 6-8PM reception and discussion will be limited to 20 RSVP'd guests who commit to reading and attending our discussion. If you'd like to join us afterwards, please come with wine at 8PM. Appetizers will be served, and in true Athenian tradition, please bring a bottle of wine to share amongst friends. In Plato's’ Symposium (only 92 short pages from 385 BC): In the course of a lively drinking party, a group of Athenian intellectuals exchange views on eros, or desire. From their conversation emerges a series of subtle reflections on gender roles  The Symposium is a deft interweaving of different viewpoints and ideas about the nature of love.
